US SAILING PERFORMANCE SAILING CERTIFICATION

This course will help you learn to analyze, adjust, and shape your sails for maximum speed. How to adjust the boats sail controls for optimum performance.  This course brings your keelboat sailing skills to a new level without moving up to a bigger boat.


AGES: 18+

DATES: Second weekend of each month

TIMES: 9:00 AM - 5:00PM, Saturday and Sunday

CLASS SIZE: Maximum 3 students per class

INSTRUCTORS: US Sailing Basic Keelboat Instructors.

LOCATION: South Lake Union.

PREREQUISITE: US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification (if you were a SailNOW! graduate email adultsailing@cwb.org for more information on how you may be able to take the class)

  • US Sailing Performance Sailing Textbook: Available in advance of scheduled practical on-the-water coaching. Watch for an email when your materials are ready for pickup.

  • 16 HOURS OF ON THE WATER AND CLASSROOM LEARNING: Instruction time will be distributed across two 8-hour days (Saturday/Sunday). The course will be a mix of classroom learning and on the water practice. Our course offers a student/instructor ratio of 3-to-1 while out on the water. We will be using our Capri 22s for this class.  The classroom time will cover the elements of sail power, use of sail controls, and how they effect sail trim. You will also get to practice advanced techniques like steering without the tiller using weight distribution, or sails. The US Sailing Performance Sailing written examination will be during the class for your convenience.

    *NOTE: US Sailing standards require a 80% passing score on the written evaluation. Make ups may be scheduled for a $100 fee.

Cancellation Policy: 

  • Cancellation more than 30 days in advance: refund less a 10% administrative fee. 

  • Cancellation 30-15 days in advance: 50% refund of the course fee. 

  • Cancellation 14 or fewer days in advance of the course: No refund.

Please Note: CWB reserves the right to cancel any course due to emergency or lack of enrollment. In such case, we will refund tuition in full. If traveling from out of area, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance in the event we must cancel this class.
