FIELD TRIP PROGRAM ASSISTANT

DATES: March through September
Position is part-time to start, becoming full-time as the season progresses
Weekdays, some weekends

Program Overview:  Come join a great team of youth educators on Lake Union at the urban community center/boat restoration workshop/hands-on-history museum that is The Center for Wooden Boats (CWB).  CWB’s Youth Programs use the marine environment and classic wooden boats to engage students in the Pacific Northwest’s unique culture, history and environment.  This position is responsible for the success of all aspects of CWB’s hands-on history field trips from registration to delivery. CWB’s field trips encompass a wide variety of activities including rowing/paddling, basic tool use, model boat sailing and STEM. An interest or experience in rowing/paddling, and a very basic understanding of sailing is helpful, although not required. For descriptions of the various field trips, go to: cwb.org/fieldtrips

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the safe operation and delivery of the youth field trip programs

  • Plan and lead hands-on field trips for groups of up to 55 students using CWB’s curriculum and evaluation

  • Process registration and inquiries for new field trip bookings

  • Communicate with teachers, and lead educators

  • Approve and document scholarships granted

  • Stock and maintain classroom and field trip tools and supplies

  • Work with the Youth Programs Supervisor to evaluate and improve the program

  • Assist with off-site toy-boat building events at regional festivals

  • Assist where needed at all-hands-on-deck organizational events

Required Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience working with youth in a hands-on experiential learning setting

  • 1 year experience on the water with boats

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook

  • Experience working with teachers, educators and parents

  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications

  • Ability to problem solve, work independently and as a team member
