RaceNOW! Summer Learn-to-Sail Program

  • The Center for Wooden Boats 1010 Valley Street Seattle, WA 98109 (map)

Have fun racing in classic wooden boats! RaceNOW! is an opportunity for intermediate skippers and crew to learn the fundamentals of sailboat racing. Each evening includes racing strategy, tactics and the basics of the racing rules. Sailing in teams of 2-3 per boat, we head out in our fleet of Blanchard Jr. Knockabouts And Lightnings for weekly races and some friendly competition. For new sailors, crewing during a race is one of the best ways to solidify your basic skills. Sign up as a team with friends, family or co-workers, or by yourself and meet new people.

The series starts with a race clinic facilitated by Oliver Davis. Racers will learn racing strategy, tactics and the basics of the racing rules, as well as have the opportunity to sail for 2 hours to practice starts and maneuvers with coaching from the instructor. The clinic is followed by 4 Friday nights of racing to put what you learn to the test!

Prerequisite: CWB Livery Checkout

Cost: solo sail: $240 members / $275 non-members; If you sign up and pay as a team of 2 to sail together every night: $195 members per sailor / $220 non-members.

Please note: RaceNOW! is for intermediate sailors. If you have racing experience, that’s helpful, but not required.
