Donate a Boat

Boats donated to CWB are used in our year-round programming or are sold as a major source of funding for that programming. Frequently we can work with you to decide how your boat donation will support us.

Benefits of Donating Your Boat
•    By donating to a maritime non-profit you derive the maximum applicable tax benefit
•    Save the hassle of marketing and selling your boat
•    Support CWB’s programming that introduces audiences of all ages and backgrounds to the pleasure and satisfaction of boating

How it works
If you would like to donate your boat please give us a call! We will talk to you about the boat and then arrange a time to see the boat. We are unable to accept all boat donations and in the event that we cannot take your boat, we will tell you the options we know of for passing your boat on some other way.

If we both decide to pursue the donation,
•    We give you a Deed of Gift, this is your tax documentation of the donation
•    If the boat is to become a part of our collection, you will need to have the boat appraised and you can deduct the full appraisal value.
•    If the boat is to be sold, you will receive Form 1098 in the mail naming the selling price and you can deduct that amount from your next tax return.
•    At this point, sign the title over to CWB (if the title is missing, talk to us about alternative ways of signing the boat over to us).
•    Deliver the boat (we can often arrange boat delivery if you are unable to)
