Job Skills Training Program at CWB
Learn New SKILLS, Have FUN, EARN Money!
The Center for Wooden Boats is excited to announce the pilot year of our Job Skills Training Program, thanks to funding from the Russell Grinnell Memorial Trust. This October, CWB will welcome six young adults from low-income or underserved backgrounds as Job Skills Crew Members to our location in South Lake Union. Crew members will participate in all areas of CWB’s operations. They will gain hands-on experience maintaining CWB’s fleet of historic boats, assist in the delivery of youth and adult programs and learn on-the-water skills in power, sail and row boats.
Job Skills Training will also include opportunities for Crew Members to learn about careers in the maritime trades through field trips, guest speakers and information sessions. Participants will receive training and work with CWB’s education staff to write resumes and cover letters, learn how to job search and practice interview skills. In addition to gaining valuable experience, Crew Members will be paid an hourly wage for their time spent at CWB.
The goal of Job Skills Training at The Center for Wooden Boats is to provide Crew Members with the experience, education and resources necessary to create positive change in their lives beyond CWB.
