Pirate

With funding from 4Culture, we are currently documenting the R-Boat Pirate, designed by west coast Naval Architect Ted Geary and built locally at Lake Union Drydock in 1926. Pirate is moored year-round at CWB and also sails to heritage events within the region. Of note: the featured sailboat racing at AYP was the third running of the Alexandra Cup between yachts from Seattle and Vancouver. It ended in a heated dispute between yachtsmen of those countries that lasted until 1914. Only the introduction of another class, the R-boat in 1914, did the two countries resume racing. Pirate is the best extant example of the R-boat in the country; and was National Champion in 1929.
