1. How do you find CWB?
The Center for Wooden Boats has two locations, one at South Lake Union in Seattle (directions here) and one at Cama Beach State Park, north of Seattle (directions here).
2. Are you open to the public?
Yes! The Center for Wooden Boats is open and free to the public. South Lake Union hours are here, Cama Beach hours and information are here.
3. Is this a private club?
No, you do not have to be a member to participate in our programs, to visit our docks, or rent a boat. CWB is a hands-on museum dedicated to preserving and passing along and preserving the skills and heritage associated with wooden boats. We encourage you to become a member to support our programs, receive our monthly e-newsletter, receive discounts at CWB and select retailers in Seattle, and participate in members-only events.
4. Can I rent a boat?
Yes, you can rent boats at CWB through our livery. Members receive discounted livery rates.
5. Can I learn to sail?
Yes, The Center for Wooden Boats offers several ways to learn to sail. Please see our Class Catalog for details.
6. Do you rent power boats?
The Center for Wooden Boats at Lake Union does not rent our power boats; we use these boats in our day-to-day operations. We only rent human and wind powered vessels at our South Lake Union location. We do however, rent power boats at Cama Beach. Check here for details.
7. Where does your funding come from?
CWB is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our annual expenses are met in two ways: earned income and contributed income. Earned income is generated through our workshops, boat sales, and facility rentals. Contributed income includes individual donations, grants, and sponsorships. Learn more about how CWB stays afloat.
8. Can I have my Wedding or Special Event in the Boathouse or on the docks at CWB? Yes. CWB rents out the boathouse and sometimes the docks as well. Please visit our Facility Rental for rates and other details.
9. Where can I park when I visit CWB in Seattle? Parking near CWB and Lake Union Park is difficult and constantly changing. Your best bet is to use Public Transportation or alternate modes of transit. Learn more on our Visit CWB in Seattle page.
