Job Opening - Lead Youth Sailing Instructor

Position Title:  Lead Youth Sailing Instructor

Program Overview:  Come join a great team of youth educators on Lake Union at the urban community center/boat restoration workshop/hands-on-history museum that is The Center for Wooden Boats (CWB).  By teaching sailing in classic wooden 8-foot El Toro prams, the Youth Sailing Program aims to develop 9-15 year-old students’ self-confidence and foster skills in observation, decision-making, and leadership.   For descriptions of the programs, see CWB’s website.

Instructor Responsibilities:
•    Responsible for the safe operation of the summer youth sailing programs
•    Lesson planning, teaching and assessing students using CWB’s curriculum
•    Teaching alone and with a co-instructor
•    Ensuring a high level of safety for all activities
•    Helping to maintain powerboats, the El Toro fleet and the classroom through weekly clean-up
•    Working with the Education Director to evaluate and improve the program

Required Qualifications:
•    2 years experience teaching sailing
•    2 years experience working with youth
•    US Sailing Instructor Level 1 Certification
•    Current CPR and First Aid certifications
•    Competence in sailing and sailing instruction on small keel and centerboard boats
•    Ability to problem solve, work independently and as a team member
•    Competence in operating small powerboats
•    Comfort speaking with parents and guardians
•    Flawless reliability

Job Details:
•    Dates: June 7th, 2010 – September 8th, 2010
•    Position is 40 hours/week
•    Salary: $12-14/hour DOE
