Gifts for Tomorrow at CWB

Gifts for Tomorrow

Founded in a crowded houseboat kitchen in 1976, The Center for Wooden Boats (CWB) is today an anchor educational and cultural attraction in Seattle’s burgeoning South Lake Union neighborhood and on the saltwater beach of Cama Beach State Park on Camano Island.

CWB is a leader in regional maritime heritage preservation initiatives and is frequently referred to as one of Seattle’s "top ten museums". Throughout its growth CWB has held tightly to its core values: fueled by volunteers and grounded in the community, preserving craft and craftsmanship, working in partnership, and creating opportunities for hands-on learning. We are passionate about our role in preserving and sharing maritime history with people from all walks of life.

CWB provides authentic Seattle experiences now and for the future.

  • We collect and preserve historic and Northwest small craft and maritime culture for future generations.
  • We broaden kids' horizons in historic boats and build their confidence and competence.
  • We make learning maritime skills and crafts a life-long opportunity.
  • We make the water accessible to everyone, from sailors to strollers.
  • We provide a natural oasis and community gathering place at the water’s edge.

Grassroots support fed the creation of The Center for Wooden Boats and continues to be the foundation for the future. While CWB’s friends have varying financial resources, they share a common passion for our mission.
