If you are interested in partnering with CWB for a school project, please contact Jake Beatty, our Youth Program Manager at (206) 382-2628. Below are projects we have collaborated on in the past.
Orion
Center
Teenagers from Healthcare's Orion Center, a homeless youth shelter
in Seattle, come down to CWB weekly from late spring through early fall to
get out on the water in sail boats and row boats.
Seattle
Mental Health
Summer boatbuilding and voyaging programs.
4H
Teenagers from Tacoma "dirty dozen" 4-H group explored Puget Sound
aboard CWB's umiaks (Aleutian canoes). The group carved their own paddles,
which they generously donated to CWB.
Edmonds
Homeschool Resource Center
For the past several years, we have offered various maritime skills classes to
homeschoolers in this Edmonds program. Activities include 3-day sailing classes,
navigation, ditty bag construction and the mobile classroom on site.
Pacific
Crest Montessori
Students from Pacific Crest Montessori School have represented us at the Pacific
Challenge for the last several years. During the school year, students volunteer
their time helping to maintain our fleet.
Alternative
School #1
AS#1 has a long history with CWB. In the past, students have built Clancy sailing dinghies
in the classroom and learned to sail at our docks. In 2000, they piloted a program
building model R-boats. Over the years, students from the program have interned in our Boat
Shop. More recently, they've worked with Saaduuts, our Resident Master Carver, on carving native canoes. To see an article and video presentation on this partnership, go to www.edutopia.org.
