Come Celebrate the Holidays at CWB!

Get in the holiday spirit with The Center for Wooden Boats!  On Saturday and Sunday, December 15^th and 16^th, CWB will host a Holiday Open House from noon to 4 p.m. each day.  The two-day celebration invites visitors down to the docks for some spirited exploration, energetic creation and a variety of fun and festive family events. Among the many activities are free boat rides around Lake Union aboard historic schooners, motoryachts, rowboats classic sailboats and the Lake Union Water Taxi.  

This year’s event will integrate traditional CWB activities, such as free boat rides (noon, 1 and 2 p.m.) and hands-on canoe carving with Artist-In-Residence Saaduuts (SUH-DOOTS), with innovative nautical and holiday craft-making and live holiday music (all day).  

The holiday open house will feature exciting and educational activities for the whole family. Throughout the day, kids of all ages will enjoy listening to seafaring tales while riding the electric water taxis and sipping complementary hot refreshments. Other activities include:

• Interpretive displays about The Center for Wooden Boats and the future of Lake Union Park and its maritime programs 
• Representatives from the Museum of History and Industry will record oral histories of Lake Union at the former Naval Reserve Building
•   Dr. Lorraine McConaghy will lead historical walking tours of Lake Union up Westlake Avenue at 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m. on Saturday
• A uniformed naval officer who trained at the former Naval Reserve Building will be on hand to lead tours and provide info on the history of the building and its uses
• Free public paddles at 3 p.m. Sunday aboard a 36-foot Dragon Boat provided by Tacoma Dragon Boat Association
• Candy canes and an Information Open House at the Discovery Modelers Education Center from 12:30 – 3:00

 There is no registration required and all activities are free.
