Eric Daw built the original prototype for "Wooden Boats" in Brooklin, ME. Eirc was invited to CWB in 1997 to build a small tender of his own design. | Philip Thiel - Skiffcycle |
![]() |
|
The
SKIFFCYCLE is one of a series of ecologically-benign do-it-yourself
pedal-powered boats introduced at CWB by Seattle naval architect Philip
Thiel. The DORYCYCLE was the first, in 1982 (now owned by Marty Loken),
and was followed by the SHARPCYCLE in 1989 (bought by Lewis Elwood for
use in Lake Couer d'Alene). Then came ESCARGOT in 1992, part of the
Center's livery fleet until purchased by Gordon Singletary. Other ESCARGOT's
are in the service of the British Environmental Agency as demonstrators
on the English canal system, and in a fleet of rental boats on the Ruhr
at Mulheim, Germany. Another version was built by Bryan Lowe in Seattle.
The SKIFFCYCLE was built by Rich Kolin in 2000 (and is now for sale
by the designer so he will have space for another design), and was followed
by APHASIA, built by Rich in 2002, and presently a popular member of
the Center's livery fleet.
