2009 Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival

Dates: Saturday, July 4th and Sunday, July 5th, 2009
Time: 10 am – 6 pm daily
Free! Donations Accepted!

The theme is heritage wooden boats. The ambiance is that of an old-fashioned, down-home waterfront festival where everything is fun, almost everything is free and nothing much is fancy. It's as authentically grassroots American as you can get and has been for the last 32 years.

The 2009 Festival will include:

Visiting Vessels: Download the list of visiting vessels that will be on display at the Festival!

Among the list of visiting vessels are the tall ships Adventuress and Zodiac. The dual schooners will set sail together on Sunday afternoon from 3 - 7pm. Download the press release to learn more about the dual schooner sail.

Public Rides: Take a trip on Lake Union by sail, row, paddle, steam, electric or power boat.  Boats fill up fast; sign up early!

Activities for Kids: Toy boat building, treasure hunt, coloring contest, sidewalk chalk art and more!

Demonstrations: Onshore demonstrations such as Rope Fender Making, Tool Sharpening, Celestial Navigation and more!

Quick and Daring: Are they amazing, or just crazy? Watch teams build a boat in 24 hours and cheer them on as they launch and race in an exciting and hilarious regatta on Sunday.  The contest is a stretching exercise for the boatbuilder’s creativity, planning, and construction skills, but its special purpose is to provide an exciting and enjoyable experience for contestants and spectators.

Family Boat Building: Under the guidance of a professional Boatwright and assisted by CWB volunteers, families will build the Union Bay Skiff, a simple but great wooden sailboat designed by local Boatwright Brad Rice. Watch, ask questions or maybe help with some sanding! Boats are launched at 4pm on Sunday.

Live Music: There will be a variety of musicians performing all weekend long on the Lake Union Park lawn. Want to see the lineup? Download the Festival Schedule.
